Departing Active Region 13664 just behind the west limb. unleashed its largest flare peaking X8.7 at 16:51 UTC May 14 causing a strong R3 level radio blackout over North America. A weak CME associated with the X8.7 flare is heading well to the west and will not have an earth bound component. A second more energetic CME is visible exiting the other side of the solar corona from the M4.4 this coronal mass is heading to the east and also away from Earth. Todays X-Flare is the largest since 2017.
