X5-Class Solar Flare | Dec 31, 2023
The strongest solar event of the current solar cycle, a Major X5-Class Solar Flare has erupted around Active Region 13536 at 21:55 UTC late Dec 31st. As yet no coronal mass ejection (CME) is visible on SOHO but it will not have an earth directed component as the active region was just rotated on the eastern limb and all plasma will be directed well away from out planet.
