A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the EMSC to Magnitude 6.9 struck the Central Mid-Atlantic Ridge at 11:42 UTC on September 4, 2022. The agency reports a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). The epicenter was located 1 122 km (697 miles) NW of Georgetown, Saint Helena, and 1 400 km (870 miles) SW of Goderich, Sierra Leone. The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.

There is no tsunami threat associated with this earthquake.
