Very Deep Magnitude 7.1 Earthquake Strikes Moro Gulf, Mindanao, Philippines | July 11, 2024

A Magnitude -7.1 earthquake struck just south of Mindanao Island, Philippines, at 2:13 July 11th UTC. No immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The quake hit Mindanao at 10.13am local time on Thursday, and recorded a depth of 626km. The nearest city to the quake’s epicentre is Cotabato City which is home to 325,000 people. There is no tsunami threat, as this earthquake was very deep.

In December last year, a 7.6 magnitude quake hit Mindanao killing a woman and injuring several others.
