A very deep earthquake registered by the EMSC at Magnitude 6.8 struck Northern Argentina at 22:09 UTC on January 20, 2023. The depth of the earthquake was reported as 586 km (364 miles).

The epicenter was located 24.3 km (15.1 miles) SW of Campo Gallo (population 5 455), and 120 km (74 miles) NNW of Quimili (population 10 959), Santiago del Estero, Argentina.
