Major X1.9 Flare With Earth-Directed Halo CME | Jan 18, 2026

A major X1.9 solar flare was unleashed around Active Region 14341 in the late hours of January 18 (18:08 UTC) associated with this event was a Type II radio emission (698 km/s) and a TenFlare lasting 123 minutes and measuring 3200 solar flux units. A large full halo Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) is not visible in solar imagery and does appear to have an Earth directed component that will likely produce a strong geomagnetic storm sometime January 20 that may reach the G3 threshold. Strong aurora should be possible at mid to high latitudes.
