A major X1.3 solar flare was just unleashed around a new active region turning the southeast limb. The time of the flare was 09:43 UTC. At the time of this event the earth was experiencing a geomagnetic storm with strong aurora being seen mid to high latitudes. Solar activity is expected to increase once this new active region continues to rotate onto the earth facing side of the solar disk.
