Major X1.3 Solar Flare (Earth-Directed CME) | August 8, 2024

An X1.3 solar flare was unleashed around Active Region 13777 at 19:35 UTC. A type II radio emission with an estimated velocity of 1026 km/s was recorded. The event was associated with a halo CME that appears to have an Earth directed component. The main bulk of plasma looks to be heading south of the Sun-Earth position however a shock passage past Earth will still be possible within 48-72 hours. With at least two other eruptions expected to pass Earth over the next few days, and a potential for a G2-Class event.
