A major X8.1 Solar Flare was unleashed at 23:57 UTC February 1. Making this the third strongest flare this current solar cycle. Solar activity ramped up February 1st with a flurry of M-Class flares followed up with a X1 -Class blast and this event may have a Coronal Mass Ejection now visible on solar telemetry. In total three X-Class solar flares were reported in the last 12 hours: X1.0 at 12:33 UTC, X8.1 at 23:57 UTC, X2.8 at 00:36 UTC. There is a CME exiting the solar corona but seems to not have an earth directed component and aiming to earths west. These event may not produce a geomagnetic storm here for the earth however this active region will move into an earth-facing position in the next few days and any X-Class event will most likely have a high potential for geomagnetic storming.
