Departing Active Region 13697 unleashed two major flares while rotating off the western limb the largest peaking to X1.5 at 11:08 UTC June 10. The impressive active region continued its X-Ray barrage for its second rotation despite its diminishing size as it turns behind the western limb. A large coronal mass ejection (CME) is associated with these events and is heading to the west and away from Earth. Due to the events proximity in relation to the Earth there will be no earth directed component. Planets on the other side of the sun may keep this active region ‘alive’ so we look in the coming week to see possible further far-side eruptions as this sunspot moves in between Jupiter-Mercury and Venus.
