A strong magnitude 6.8 quake offshore Japan near Ishinomaki, Ishinomaki Shi, Miyagi. The earthquake hit in the morning on Saturday 1 May 2021 at 10:27 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 60 km.

Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
